As well as helping to deliver energy facilities, Solomons Europe has also been involved in significant upgrade work to transmission and distribution infrastructure – particularly in Scotland.

Again, providing quantity surveying, procurement and commercial support on projects procured under NEC3®, FIDIC, EPC contracts and client bespoke developer terms and conditions, we have supported two major high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) north of the border.

We provided contract management and commercial management services to a major EPC contractor delivering the Caithness-Moray HVDC Interconnector Project – the first HVDC scheme in the north of Scotland.

The first stage of the £1.1 billion project involved linking Spittal, in Caithness, and Blackhillock, in Moray with 320KV, 113km submarine HVDC cables, with further stages to link the system to the remote Shetland isles.

The landmark project aims to connect current and future renewable and low carbon developments in the region to the national’s electricity supply.

Elsewhere, we provided contract management and commercial management services to a major EPC contractor delivering the Western Link HVDC Interconnector Project.

This £1 billion undersea electrical link connects Hunterston, in Western Scotland, and Flintshire Bridge, Connah's Quay, in North Wales, routed to the west of the Isle of Man.

The connection was developed offshore to reduce the environmental impact of the new 2,200 MW capacity and is ideally placed to link future renewable projects to the electivity network.
